Britney Spears denies music comeback, prefers ghostwriting

Britney Spears has quashed rumors of a potential return to the music industry in a candid Instagram post, dismissing reports of a new album. Addressing the speculation, she clarified, “Just so we’re clear, most of the news is trash !!! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album… I will never return to the music industry !!! When I write, I write for fun or other people !!! For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me.”

The pop singer seemed to be responding to recent news suggesting her collaboration with Charli XCX and writer Julia Michaels for an undisclosed record, her first in over a decade, as reported by Variety. Although Michaels had previously collaborated with Britney Spears, the nature of their current music collaboration remains unknown.

Spears referred to herself as a ‘ghostwriter,’ expressing a preference for writing for other artists without attaching her name to the projects. She also addressed claims surrounding her book, ‘The Woman in Me,’ stating, “I’ve written over 20 songs for other people in the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!! People are also saying MY BOOK WAS RELEASED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ILLEGALLY and that’s far from the truth … Have you read the news these days ??? I’m so LOVED and blessed !!!”

Despite rumors, Spears emphasized her contentment with her current role. She highlighted her recent hits, including the 2022 duet ‘Hold Me Closer’ with Elton John and ‘Mind Your Business’. The latter is a collaboration with Will, originally recorded for her 2013 album, Britney Jean. (ANI)
